Ask your librarian how easy it is to catalog Internet materials and he or she will probably start laughing or  believe you are playing a cruel joke.   Citing sources of  information on Internet documents is hard to do since the information can be changed at any time, the page address can change, multiple sites may have more than one version without a version number given, or the page can disappear completely.

  Eadegr~2.jpg (39625 bytes)
These problems constitute just the tip of the cataloging dilemma. Very often, web pages do not include the full name and address of the author/publisher.  Giving literary credit to specific individuals under these conditions is sometimes hardly possible. The same is true for graphics.  While some sites that supply graphics (to anyone that wants them) say that the images are freely available for use, how do you know that is really true?  You don't.

At the beginning of this project, I probably surfed at least 1000 Masonic websites to get a feel for the information that is currently on the web, to obtain content and to verify content.  Not one other site in memory has included a credits page.  Well, this is one.  Where possible, I have included the source of materials (which may change or become non-existent in five minutes).  It is my hope that since Masonry is a fraternal non-profit organization, my Brothers and Sisters will excuse me if I have mistakenly not credited them below or have left out important information.  If this has happened, contact me.   Apologies and corrections will be made as fast as humanly possible.

Unless otherwise cited, all graphics are original works.  I did not design the square and compasses logo, the pillars, a courtyard of black and white tiles, or any other obviously Masonic symbol.  Nor were any of these original concepts. All of these symbols have been around for at least a couple hundred years.  So license has been taken and  I have chosen to reproduce Masonic symbolism for the purpose of creating a Masonic theme.  This is something that isn't owned by my Grand Lodge or anyone body else.   I've seen at least three images with similarities to the Winding Stairs main page image on this site.  Oh, well.  There are just so many ways of depicting Mt. Rushmore before someone will say, "Gee, I think I've seen that before."

Thanks to Worshipful Master, Alan Schlaikjer for giving me the project go ahead and to the Brothers of Unity Lodge for their support.  I was given complete latitude to develop the site.  Navigation, content, and everything else was left for me to "put together."   If anyone is culpable or or to be blamed for anything, look no further.  I'm the one,  not the South Dakota Grand Lodge and not Unity Lodge 130.  On the upside of this tome, I am also in the position to take credit for everything on the site with the exception of the following credits.  I will defer taking a bow, until the site has been up for a while and necessary corrections have been made, and then, in private.

As a  Web developer, it is my opinion that the webmaster or developer or producer (pick your favorite title) should not draw attention to their personage on a site, unless for very good reason.  Does your dentist hang a sign around your neck which reads, "Molars filled by Dr Harvey Schartz, DDS, MBA, PHD, ADA, AMA, Good Person?" No.  So why should your websmith? Alas, to help the caring but poor librarian catalog these pages I offer my identity.  Just this once.

Fraternal best wishes,

In lieu of an official logo, an historical "BEAUCEANT" is depicted.   It consists of a red cross against a black and white quartered field.   Appreciation is given to the "
Sovereign and Military Order of the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem" Web site for elucidation.  The graphic shown on the Unity Lodge Web site is an original rendering of the historical design and is protected under copyright law.  Those wishing to use the image need to contact the webmaster, who will grant permission, but only if contacted.   This is, of course,  a rouse to have contact with other Masons for the sake of fellowship.  This is a hoop to jump through, to be sure.  But it is a painless hoop.    :)
